The Syllabus

A syllabus is a document which consists, mainly, of a list. This specifies all the things that are to be taught in the course for which the syllabus was created, consequently it is comprehensive. (A course in language teaching, page 176)

The actual components of the list may be either content items or process ones. The items are ordered, usually having components that are considered easier or more essential earlier, and more difficult and less important ones later.

The syllabus has explicit objectives, usually declared at the beginning of the document, on the basis of which the components of the list are selected and ordered. the syllabus is that it is a public document, it is available to be studied not only for teachers, but also for the learners, parents, employers and relevant authorities.
